In order to qualify as a member, an applicant must demonstrate the following:
1. STANDING. The successful applicant will be an attorney duly licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of at least one State.
2. SIGNIFICANT IN-HOUSE RESPONSIBILITIES. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of in-house responsibility for the legal affairs of a public or private company. Consideration will also be given to applicants who occupy or have occupied similar positions with governmental entities, charitable organizations or the armed forces. Ordinarily, members will demonstrate this level of responsibility in one of the following ways:
A. GC or CLO. The applicant is currently serving in the capacity of, or has previously served in the capacity of, a General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer with primary responsibility for the legal affairs of an entity that: * is publicly held; or * is privately held but maintains revenues in excess of $25.0M; or * is otherwise subject to (and has successfully managed) a broad range of complex and multi-disciplinary legal issues such as dispute resolution and litigation, labor and employment, commercial contracts, mergers and acquisitions, financings and capital raising, regulatory compliance, etc.
B. AGC and DEMONSTRATED SKILLS. The applicant is currently serving in the capacity of, or has previously served in the capacity of, an Associate General Counsel, Legal officer, Division Counsel or the like with a public or private company having one or more of the attributes described above AND can demonstrate the skills necessary to achieve GC status at his or her current or future employer. Skills of this nature may be demonstrable through a candidate’s broad legal responsibility for a business unit, the supervision of two or more in-house attorneys and/or the management of external legal counsel.
In every case, a successful candidate will have had regular and direct contact with, and shall have provided advice to, a CEO, CFO, COO or Board of Directors. Most members will have had in excess of 10 years experience with either a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
3. AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MISSION. Membership will be limited only to those applicants who understand the group’s mission and are willing to generously share their experience and knowledge as well as their career transition ideas, leads, strategies and contacts. Successful applicants must also be prepared to serve and assist GC Netweavers in planning and administration as necessary.
4. CHARACTER. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate the highest level of moral, ethical and professional character.
Membership is determined exclusively by the Executive Committee of GC Netweavers at its discretion.
